Woof Shedding

We love our Woofs, but we can do without the hair all over our clothes and furniture, right? In healthy dogs, shedding is nature’s way your Woof rids itself of excess, old, damaged hair that lies in the undercoat. In winter your Woof’s coat will become thicker, and then in spring, it falls out to help regulate the body’s temperature. Please see our Allergy section if your Woof has excessive hair loss and itching.

We use de-shedding brushes or blades to remove the excess hair. A normal brush will just not work for shedding purposes. There are hundreds of shedding items on the market, and it could get confusing. In over 40 years of working with Woofs and Meows, we have seen everything from vacuums with dog brush attachments to miracle shampoos that should stop shedding. The truth is that certain breeds are going to drop their coat (shed) a few times a year with some even shedding all year long. A good blade or de-shedding brush will remove this undercoat and diminish shedding throughout the day. Depending on the breed, you should use the de-shedding tool at least once every 2 weeks.

Along with a de-shedding we encourage you to review our holistic products that assist with excessive shedding and dander control.
